Past Events

As it has for over a decade, the Fisher CIO Leadership Program facilitates a CIO Roundtable in Silicon Valley, and, more recently, a 2nd one that meets in San Francisco. These monthly events are led by the member CIOs and focus on topics of current importance to them. Some of our more recent speakers and topics have included: Cyber Security (CIO of Altera), The internet of Things (CIO of Rambus + an invited speaker from Intel), Managing IT for R&D (CIO of Marvell), The Virtual Workforce (CTO of Collabworks), The roles of vendors/partners (CIO of Delta Dental), CIOs as Culture Change Agents (CIO of Dolby Labs), Socialization of IT (EVP of Salesforce.com), Rebooting IT (VP of Enterprise IT Strategy of The Gap), Big Data (CIOs of Meru Networks and of eSilicon), Big Data (invited speaker from IBM’s New Almaden Research Center), Becoming an Enabler of Innovation (CIO of Navis), Project Portfolio Management (CIO of Bio-Rad Labs), and Whatever happened to work/life balance (CIO of Electronic Arts).

On September 17, 2014, the Fisher CIO Leadership Program and Gartner Executive Programs co-sponsored a very special series of events: A Landmark CIO Community Event, the Renaissance CIO Banquet, and the Award Ceremony for the Fisher-Hopper Prize for Lifetime Achievement in CIO Leadership. The gathering included “Renaissance CIOs” from such diverse companies as Chevron, Novartis and The Gap, as well as a panel discussion on where the CIO profession is going. The day’s events culminated with a banquet at the Berkeley Faculty Club to announce the winner of the third Fisher-Hopper Prize for Lifetime Achievement in CIO Leadership: Rebecca Rhoads, the CIO of Raytheon Company. On November 8 and 9, 2013, the Fisher CIO Leadership Program co-sponsored the UC Berkeley Haas Tech Challenge, a case competition run by the Haas Technology Club. It gathers teams from the world’s top business schools to solve real-world business challenges, gain hands-on experience in technology industry and network with industry professionals and student peers. The Haas Tech Challenge 2013 case competition showcased the theme of “Consumerization of IT”. This year’s winners were: #1 Harvard Business School, #2: Berkeley Haas School of Business. #3: Stanford Graduate School of Business. Click here for the event web page.

On September 20, 2013, the Fisher CIO Leadership Program and Gartner Executive Programs co-sponsored: A Landmark CIO Community Event, the Renaissance CIO Banquet, and the Award Ceremony for the Fisher-Hopper Prize for Lifetime Achievement in CIO Leadership. The day’s events culminated with a banquet at the Claremont Hotel to announce the winner of the second Fisher-Hopper Prize for Lifetime Achievement in CIO Leadership: Chris Hjelm, the SVP and CIO of The Kroger Company. On November 1, 2012, we sponsored an executive seminar entitled: Big Data: Analytics and Action. This seminar provided insights into how various companies across multiple industries use big data as a core competency to achieve competitive advantage by identifying consumer trends and user patterns in the deluge of data that gets generated daily. Speakers included Bill Ruh, VP of the GE Global Software Center, Kim Stevenson, CIO of Intel, Bask Iyer, CIO of Juniper Networks, Hugh Williams, VP Experience at eBay, David Henke, SVP at LinkedIn, and other industry leaders. On September 14, 2012, the Fisher CIO Leadership Program and Gartner Executive Programs co-sponsored a very special series of events: A Landmark CIO Community Event, the Renaissance CIO Banquet, and the Award Ceremony for the Fisher-Hopper Prize for Lifetime Achievement in CIO Leadership. The gathering included “Renaissance CIOs” from such diverse companies as Cisco, Charles Schwab, Frito-Lay, Marriott, and Merrill Lynch as well as a panel discussion on where the CIO profession is going. The day’s events culminated with a banquet at the Claremont Hotel to announce the winner of the first Fisher-Hopper Prize for Lifetime Achievement in CIO Leadership, Filippo Passerini, Procter & Gamble Group President of Global Business Services and CIO. On November 3, 2011, The Fisher CIO Leadership Program sponsored an executive seminar entitled: The Global Impact of Social Networking. Speakers included the CIO of Facebook, SVP and General Manager of Chatter with Salesforce.com, VP & CIO of Rambus, Vice President of Talent for Intuit, the CIO of O’Reilly Media, and other distinguished speakers.

Topics included: the Business Impacts of a World Gone Social, the role of social media in driving change in the next generation Enterprise, the Impact of Social Networking on Innovation, How the Social World is Impacting your Talent, Converting Connections into Opportunities, and others.
On November 4, 2010, The Fisher CIO Leadership Program sponsored an executive seminar entitled: SaaS, Cloud, and Beyond: The Emergence of the Virtual Enterprise. Speakers included the CIO of Facebook, the ex-President of Oracle-on-Demand, the researcher who was instrumental in the development of RISC architecture, RAID storage, and now the technical foundations of The Cloud, and the President Emeritus of The Institute For The Future.

Topics included: The Cloud: Winners & Losers, a Cloud Action Plan, Obstacles & Opportunities, Organizational Innovation, the Cloud and the growing integration of the global economy, emerging Business Models for a Virtual World, The Cloud: CIO/CTO/CEO perspectives.
